A Total Guide To Dessert Recipes by Jack Dobson

Dessert recipes can include cakes, cookies, pies, pudding, tortes, cheesecakes, cobblers, crepes and several others. These desserts can be baked, no-bake, portioned into individual servings or not, layered and or be topped with dessert sauces. The recipes may include nuts or fruit, or even be made primarily from either item and they may also be of a sugar free variety. You are bound to find dessert recipes that are your favorites amongst the massive array of possibilities, across the Internet and on television programs that show you how, or in cookbooks.
An example of where you can find great recipes which you may come to love, is at a website like
VideoJug.com. There they have many Dessert Recipes which you can use, and actually see in action being cooked by chefs, through their free, online video tutorial system.
There are also dessert recipes for pudding, custard, ice cream, ice cream sundaes, crepes from France, crepes from Japan, S'mores, nut rolls, breads and alcoholic beverages intended for dessert.
One of the more popular groups of dessert recipes are the pies and tarts. A tart may not be as familiar to you as the basic pie is, but is similar in form as in having a pastry crust with a sweet filling. More often, this is a fruit filling, but, like other filled crust desserts, the fillings can be almost anything that sounds good to you. Some of these tart recipes include spreading a layer of cream cheese, gelatin, mousse, dessert sauce or other mixture under some fresh fruit, while other tarts are filled just like the regular pies minus the top crust. Pies often have a top crust in addition to the bottom crust. Also, pies are usually not as large as tarts.
Cakes are another traditional category for dessert recipes. You can find scores of recipes for cakes in cookbooks, on the Internet and on the back or side panels of cake mixes and other grocery store items that are tested by experts and housewives for quality in taste, appearance and, many times, for nutritional value. Dessert recipes for cakes include things like sachertorte, pound cake, white chocolate cheesecake, coca-cola cake, strawberry cake, bundt cake, fudge cake, gingerbread and so on. The cake itself can serve as the dessert, frequently served with a frosting whether in layers or not. A cake not in layers is called a sheet cake.
Cakes may serve as a foundation for many dessert recipes. A popular base in dessert recipes are the simple cakes, such as yellow, pound, gingerbread, sheet cake and devils food. These can be round layers, as in Boston cream pie, rectangular sheet cakes, as in decorator theme cakes, or even cubes of cake to go into desserts such as parfaits.
Cake recipes come from around the world. Sachertorte is a one layer deep chocolate with a rich fudge glaze from Vienna, Austria. Black Cherry Cake is a chocolate layer cake topped with black cherries and cream and maybe some brandy from Germany. Gingerbread is a traditional spice cake from the United Kingdom, made simply with brown sugar, white flour and possibly a touch of molasses along with spices, especially ground ginger.
Popular fruit dessert recipes include ambrosia, fruit whip and fruited gelatin creations. Ambrosia typically contains a mix of fruit cocktail, mandarin orange segments, coconut, marshmallows and whipping creme. It is from the United States, and is served chilled. Fruit whips contain beaten egg whites and stewed fruits with a juice of citrus to preserve the color, that are folded together to create the dessert whip.
Desserts are very popular with all ages, including many familiar favorites and even those you have never heard of. You may like your desserts warm or cold, and many times you can serve them either way.
